Saltmarsh Farmhouse, Seaford, East Sussex

Saltmarsh is nestled within the vast Seven Sisters Country Park, spanning 700 acres of stunning natural landscapes including rolling chalk downland, picturesque heathland, meandering river valleys and ancient woodlands. There are some great pubs in the nearby villages and towns of West Dean, East Dean, Lewes and Seaford.

The number 12 bus is outside the front door, considered one of the most beautiful bus rides in Britain.

By car: under 3 hours from London and Oxford, 2 hours from Dover and 3 hours 45 minutes from Birmingham.

By train: London Bridge to Seaford takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is an 8-minute drive from the station. Book trains to Seaford.

Contemporary elements, like a Scandi-style lounge with a central open fire, merge with historical features. There's a curated collection of art and design books available in the lounge.

There's not lots to see and do here but it provides a comfortable haven to appreciate the countryside that surrounds it. Set within the national park, guests can enjoy the presence of a garden and a welcoming guest lounge where meals are served and refreshments are available. A café and information centre dedicated to the area is open to both guests and the general public.

The six guest rooms have views out to the gardens and the surrounding area, with comfortable king-sized iron beds and some antique furniture and are simply furnished in an appropriately rustic style. Antique pictures of plants and birds complete the look.

Guests can enjoy meals in the inviting guest lounge and Friston Room. The menu offers a satisfying selection of breakfast options, including a choice between a full English breakfast or the delicious Turkish dish, Menemem. There is a public café, Saltmarsh Kitchen, and a charming courtyard available for all to relish, as well as a great choice of wines and spirits at the attractive honesty bar.
