Edwardian architect John Evelyn Trollope designed the hotel, the first in the world to offer central heating, as well ensuite bathrooms in every room. Playful hand-painted wallpaper in the Front Hall and gilt botanical prints over the fireplace were recent renovations made by interior designer Russel Sage.

Many members of staff have been with the hotel for years, but even if you are a first-timer you will be greeted like an old friend. Expect traditional old-fashioned English service from immaculately dressed staff. The facilities include a gym (with a personal trainer) and in the summer, lawn croquet.

Under Chef Richard Galli, The Dining Room offers an impeccable Michelin-starred experience. One of the most popular items on the menu is the Eggs Drumkilbo - a lobster and egg-based dish. The Goring lobster omelette was indulgent, sered with crisp triple-cooked chips and a palate-cleansing salad. The Veranda overlooking the garden serves informal and dinners and delectable afternoon teas.
