MORE INFORMATION

Location

The hotel overlooks Lough Atalia, so you don't even need to leave the premises to see the area's natural beauty - although Connemara isn't too far away.

You can walk to Galway city centre in 15 minutes, where there are plenty of restaurants, cafés, shops and traditional Irish pubs.

By plane: Birmingham and Edinburgh to Shannon takes 1 hour 15 minutes; London to Shannon takes 1 hour 30 minutes - after which, a taxi takes an hour. On-site parking costs €10 per day. Book flights to Shannon.

Style

Interior colours are fairly muted, other than some brighter hues of blue and purple. Fun touches include contemporary ceiling lights and a bird mural in the spa. There are pretty views of the lough, amplified by large windows that also let the light flood in.

Service & Facilities

Facilities include a gym, large swimming pool, spa and outdoor hot tub. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and more than happy to help guests with how to get the most out of their Galway trip. They recommended some cute restaurants that we may not have discovered otherwise.

Bedrooms

The contemporary, clean-lined rooms have neutral décor, but splashes of colour such as blue and maroon in curtains and bedding. The zen bathooms feature chic Elemis toiletries.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with Elemis toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities, bottled water, TV, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and you can order hot food. The area is known for its seafood, a great option when dining at Marinas. The light lunch offerings at Coopers are diverse - we loved the Galway goats cheese salad.

Marinas Restaurant: Irish cuisine, local/seasonal produce. Open daily for breakfast and dinner. Mains from €12.

Coopers: casual bar, lounge and terrace. Open daily for lunch, dinner and drinks. Afternoon tea, Thu-Sun from €30.
