MORE INFORMATION
Location
The Buxton sits squarely in the middle of fast-gentrifying East London, at the bottom of Brick Lane. This is arty London at its best - Whitechapel Gallery is practically next door, or it's a ten-minute walk to the bars, restaurants and shops in and around Spitalfields Market.
It's a 5-minute walk to the nearest tube station, and not too much further to Liverpool Street station.
By car: over 4 hours from Manchester and 2 hours 30 minutes from Bristol. Paid parking available nearby.
By train: Aldgate East tube station is a 5-minute walk and Liverpool Street station is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Book trains to London.
Style
On arrival, guests are greeted in the ground-floor bistro. The décor combines original Victorian features with signature East London design choices - exposed brickwork, trailing plants and pendant lighting. Diners can sit overlooking the kitchen, or with views onto Brick Lane.
Service & Facilities
As a restaurant-with-rooms, there are no real facilities except the tiny rooftop herb garden. The duty manager was a charming host; staff are friendly and more than happy to help with anything from local recommendations to top-picks from the menu.

Restaurants & Bars
The ground-floor bistro serves a mean cocktail, as well as a short menu of British-European plates. Guests can sit around a wraparound bar to watch the leather-aproned chefs cook up dishes from the open kitchen. Pair a gin-based Intro to Aperol from the cocktail list with a portion of Guinness rarebit with pickled onions - sublime.
The Buxton: bistro and bar, small plates, seasonal menus. All-day dining, open daily. Three-course set menu, £30.
