Nestled in Beadnell village, the hotel sits in a quiet setting, yet is easily accessible. Despite the closeness to the lovely, curved and family-friendly beach, few rooms have sea views and other than a couple of shops and another hotel, the beach and Bamburgh Castle are the area's big draw.
Situated less than a minute's drive from Northumberland's coastal road that leads from Alnmouth, 12 miles to the south, to Bamburgh, five miles to the north.
By car: around 1 hour 10 mins from Newcastle, 2 hours from Edinburgh and 6 hours 30 mins from London. There is free parking on-site.
By train: there are direct train to Alnmouth from Newcastle (25 minutes), Edinburgh (1 hour) and London Kings Cross (3 hours 40 minutes). The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the station. Book trains to Alnmouth.
Juxtaposing with its austere exterior, everything inside has a sassy look that mixes rustic chic with seaside-y touches while also remaining pragmatic: parquet flooring, leather and velvet-covered chairs, statement lampshades, exposed stone walls and assorted nautical paraphernalia. Adding to the sense of fun, you'll find the odd vintage touch of Bakelite telephones and leather suitcases.
The staff are young and chirpy and beach chairs can be hired and wellies borrowed if you've forgotten to bring them. There's a small sitting room - though sometimes used as an overspill dining area - plus a pleasant outside terrace to be enjoyed in finer weather beside the car park.

Rooms ooze a smart boutique feel with designer lampshades and oversized headboards, blended with a rustic warmth in the form of exposed stone walls, leather armchairs and beams. All have jaunty coastal touches such as framed shells or a brass telescope and some have fun feature wallpapers.

Serving up straightforward, hearty portions, given the location, it's not a surprise the menu majors on fishy food - including local oysters and mussels and beer-battered fish and chips. Their homemade burger is also popular and there are always daily specials. We loved the choice of where to eat: in a booth, on a high table or in the bar. Breakfast is cooked to order and includes local kippers plus a vegetarian grill.
